Ayurveda - Natural Health and More Energy With Green Smoothies

By Martha Gesegnet

The vitamin and herb companies are making millions of dollars promoting and selling supplements to people who are looking for more energy and better health.

But you can have both and save money by adding a few Ayurvedic guidelines and recipes into your diet. Green Smoothies provide superior nutrition that counter the effects of today's stressful lifestyles and otherwise often poor diet.

The first thing to remember is that your body prefers real food . This is what you are genetically wired for...to eat real, whole food, rather than supplements that were pressed together and processed in a manufacturing plant. Your body can absorb and utilize these nutrients best when they come from food. (You will have more energy because your body isn't using it's resources trying to break down foreign capsules and tablets.) It knows what to do with food.

Most supplements don't get absorbed and end up in your toilet. Really, It's true.

Why should you add a green smoothie to your day?

Most smoothies are not that healthy and won't provide good nutrition and long lasting energy. loaded with fruits like bananas, strawberries and orange juice, they provide lots of sugar! This means a quick acting burst of energy, and rise in blood sugar, followed by fatigue and low blood sugar. Sugar also promotes the growth of Candida and yeast which most definitely causes fatigue.

But a green smoothie is different. It is made with different ingredients and still tastes Yummy!! In Ayurveda, one eats mostly according to the season, so just changing a few ingredients like the type of greens and fruits keeps your body and energy in balance.

Some good examples? Lemon Blueberry Tart Smoothie for summer or Vanilla Cardamom Pear Smoothie for fall.

The lemon blueberry smoothie is made with pure water, lemon juice for cleansing the liver, blueberries providing loads of fiber and antioxidants, a few fresh dates for sweetness, avocado for the good type of fat, and a few leafs of Kale, for fiber, calcium and chlorophyll. The chirpily helps cleanse the blood stream. All the fiber and little bit of good fat keeps you feeling full and satisfied for hours.

Don't care for Kale? That's the fun part, just adjust the ingredients according to your taste and the season. A little coconut milk instead of water and you've got sweetness and good fats. Spinach instead of Kale. With fresh seasonal greens at the market the possibilities are endless. Just change a few ingredients to balance your dosha.

This is a great way to get more vegetables into your diet without doing a lot of cooking. The ingredients are right in your grocery store. No supplements needed. It takes only a few minutes to whip one up in the morning and take it on the road. And the kids will like it too.

By adding a green smoothie with these super foods to your diet and your day, you are slowly and gently cleaning out toxins that accumulate in your body and adding superior nutrition that keeps your energy level balanced. They are loaded with healthy and beneficial enzymes that fuel your cells with lots of energy.
